Director of Development
The Director of Development will drive fundraising efforts, focusing on donor cultivation, planned giving, and major gifts. This role will bridge the work of the Chief Development Officer and Events Manager, ensuring a seamless donor journey from engagement through stewardship. The Director of Development will oversee donor relations, manage a portfolio of major donors, and support key initiatives aligned with the organization's mission and fundraising goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
- Cultivate relationships with targeted prospective and current major donors, ensuring consistent and personalized communication.
- Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement strategies for identifying and approaching major gift prospects.
- Plan and execute a comprehensive stewardship program, enhancing donor experience and retention through ongoing engagement and recognition.
- Planned Giving
- Work with the Chief Development Officer to identify potential planned giving donors and establish strategies for promoting legacy gifts.
- Educate and engage donors on planned giving options, creating tailored proposals that align with donors' philanthropic interests and Center for Hospice Care's goals.
- Maintain and grow a portfolio of planned giving donors, ensuring all necessary follow-up and stewardship.
- Major Gifts and Grants
- Lead the solicitation and management of major gifts, creating targeted proposals and ensuring timely acknowledgment and stewardship.
- Support the Chief Development Officer in identifying and applying for relevant grants; collaborate on application processes and ensure all deadlines are.
- Monitor grant progress and prepare necessary reports to fulfill grant requirements and demonstrate impact.
- Annual Giving Program
- Coordinate with the Events Manager and Chief Development Officer to optimize annual giving initiatives, including campaigns and appeals.
- Lead efforts to increase annual donor participation, including online, direct mail, and recurring giving programs.
- Collaboration and Team Leadership
- Partner with the Events Manager to leverage fundraising events for donor cultivation, identifying opportunities to increase event impact.
- Collaborate with the administrative support team to ensure efficient donor database management, tracking interactions, and processing.
- Assist in the development of marketing materials for fundraising initiatives, working closely with the marketing and communications team.
- Data and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive donor records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Track and report on fundraising metrics and progress toward goals, identifying areas for improvement and adjustments in.
- Provide regular updates to the Chief Development Officer, including analysis of donor trends and suggestions for new approaches.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field; Master's degree or CFRE preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on major gifts, planned giving, and donor relations.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and demonstrated knowledge of planned giving.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and connect with donors on a personal level.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with experience using donor management software and interpreting data to inform fundraising efforts.
- Team-oriented, with experience leading or mentoring other development.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and donor.
