ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care :
o Collects and shares pertinent information with the provider.
o Receives and acts on directives from the provider.
Responsible for preparing patients for visits with the providers. Duties include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, preparing supplies for wound care, dressing changes, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, prepping injection materials, and accurately entering data into the EMR system.
Assists in cast and soft goods application as well as the removal of casts, staples, and sutures.
Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during business hours and at the end of each day.
Assists the providers in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, disability, and FMLA forms, etc.).
Prepares patients’ electronic charts after the date of service.
Maintains the inventory of medical supplies and proper maintenance of medical equipment.
Verifies that any outstanding testing results are recorded in the EMR system, confirms the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and / or insurance), and notes imaging, DME, or casting needs after provider visit on the date of service.
Scans clinical documents into the EMR system.
Prints schedules on the morning of the date of service.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma / GED required.
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations is preferred.
One-two years of experience in medical office setting is preferred.
In lieu of experience must have CMA certification.
Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff members, patients, and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain professional relationships with providers.
Ability to demonstrate compassion when dealing with patients and family members.
