Job Description
At The Center for Progress and Excellence, we offer targeted mental health and case management services to at-risk individuals. Through our whole child, whole family approach to counseling, our trained and licensed counselors can create a plan that is unique for each individual to help overcome challenges they may face in their daily lives.
SUMMARY The Counselor I provides individual mental health and or substance abuse counseling to clients in multiple settings. This position will work primarily with Department of Juvenile Justice referred clients. Referred clients will be from Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, and Glades counties. Counseling will be conducted in the office as well as in client’s homes, schools, and other locations in the community.
This DJJ Counselor will accept clients from Charlotte, Hendry, Glades, and Lee counties. The DJJ Counselor will travel between these counties to provide in-person counseling sessions. Sessions may be completed in the Fort Myres office, LaBelle office space, at the client's home, in select schools, and/or in the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- Provides individual, family, and/or couple therapy to each client as needed
- Conducts necessary assessments to help determine the best approach with which to assist each client. Timely completion of paperwork is essential. Counselors must be able to complete assessments, treatment plans and recommendations.
- Promotes empathetic listening to individuals’ emotions and experiences
- Provides specialized, intensive professional psychological treatment
- Executes and modifies individualized treatment plans to meet identified needs
- Provide personalized attention to client needs
PATIENT CARE
- Conducts evaluation of mental health/substance abuse needs of individual
- Delivery of psychotherapy
- Prepare and maintain progress reports of clients
- Assists in the process of advocacy for client’s access to resources through community programs and coaching to the patients, when appropriate
- Communicates suggestions on treatment plan to appropriate staff
- Collaborates and coordinates with the caregiver, physician, medical assistant, director, service assessment, case management, utilization review, home health care and all other disciplines to provide the best care to clients
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be capable of working with the juvenile population. Requires proven professionalism and the ability to deal effectively with patients, families, and a variety of internal and external resources. Must have a reliable form of transportation.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s or Master’s of Social Work or Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution required.
- 1 year as a Mental Health Counselor
LANGUAGE SKILLS: English required; Fluency in Spanish is preferred
