Position Available: Director of Nursing
- Role Function
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive medical support services to individuals with complex healthcare needs.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to optimize patient care delivery, enhance patient safety, and promote clinical excellence.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, addressing the unique needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, substance use disorders, co-occurring HIV/AIDS, and mental illness.
- Oversee nursing staff training programs, including children and adult vaccine programs. Provide CPR, first aid, and Narcan training to equip staff with essential skills for emergency response and opioid overdose prevention.
- Conducted regular performance evaluations and provided ongoing feedback and support to nursing and /or DSP’s staff, fostering a professional growth and development culture.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, and state licensing requirements, through regular audits and quality assurance initiatives.
- Participate in budget planning and resource allocation to optimize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to coordinate care, address clinical concerns, and promote continuity of care across residential and outpatient programs.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, and state licensing.
- Provide patient/family education and counseling in health promotion, maintenance, and disease prevention.
- Performing physical assessments, diagnosis and treatment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, patient education, and evaluation and management of office emergencies as described in a collaborative practice agreement
- Participate in entity-level performance improvement activities
- Record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation, and re-
- Monitor and evaluate patient care through direct rounds and consultation
- Train, certify, and recertify DSP’s AMAPs as per OMRDD Provide written medical follow-up report for LPN and Residence Manager weekly
- Ensure that all medical systems, medical policies, and medical forms are standardized evaluation of patient status using computer documentation tools
Education
- Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.
- Current and valid Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in New York State.
- Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), or
- Psychiatric Mental Health NP (PMHNP)
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with individuals with IDD, developmental disabilities, or special needs populations preferred.
- Experience in primary care, mental health, or complex chronic disease management.
- Communication skills, verbal and written
- Knowledge of and ability to provide information that is appropriate and accessible
- Knowledge of and adherence to confidentiality and privacy rules
- Possess Knowledge of the CDC vaccination program and DOH guidance regulations.
- Must be familiar with cultural and linguistic competency standards and have experience with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
- Strong understanding of the unique healthcare challenges individuals with special needs face.
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
