About the Role
Job Summary
The Kitchen Porter is responsible for receiving, verifying and properly storing incoming groceries and supplies in a timely manner. Ensures all supplies received are the proper specification and in good condition. Stocks all items and organizes storerooms, walk-in coolers, and receiving area, following first in first out (FIFO) procedures. Responsible for basic utility functions like washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, walk-in coolers, and storerooms. Organization is a key element of this job.
This is an "as needed" position, working Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00am-1:00pm.
Job Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
At least 1 year working in a food service kitchen required.
Must be able to perform basic math in relationship to measurements and converting between units required.
ServSafe Certification preferred or the ability to obtain the certificate within 1 year of employment required.
Some basic data entry and inventory management experience preferred.
Some basic food production experience preferred.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds.
Results of background check based on fingerprints must be free of any record of child abuse or moral turpitude
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Receives all orders from outside vendors including groceries and supplies. Verifies that invoices match deliveries, all items meet standards, and received at the proper temperatures.
Transports and stores all items in the proper place including dry goods, refrigerated items, frozen items, and paper goods. Rotating stock each time using FIFO stocking method and organizing the walk-in coolers.
Pulls prepared food for deliveries. Utilize proper containers that meet transportation requirements and box food according to delivery location. Communicates with driver any information required for the daily delivery.
Performs basic inventory management counts and updates the on hand count before the order date. Notifies director of low stock items to avoid no stock levels on hand.
Breakdown all boxes and separates for recycling. Ensures receiving areas are is safe, clean, and organized, free of debris, spills and hazards. Ensures empty boxes are disposed of/recycled properly.
Organizes and cleans storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers on a daily basis. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping and mopping floors until clean, ensure all food items are off the floor, right face all items for clear sight of label or item, and ensures all items are returned to proper storage space to ensure accurate inventory levels.
Maintains kitchen equipment throughout the day. Ensures all equipment is wiped down and clean. Escalates any concerns of improperly functioning items to the director for repairs.
Maintains the dish washing area in a clean, organized, and sanitary manner. Ensures all dishes and storage containers are washed and sanitized before the end of each day. Properly stores all clean dishes in storage area. Being aware of potential cross-contamination hazards. Ensures proper sanitation practices throughout each task preformed.
Maintains overall cleanliness of the kitchen common areas. This includes, but not limited to, keeping work area(s) clean, keeping the floor free of food/liquid that may be a potential safety hazard, sweep and mop floors before end of shift, gather and remove all trash disposing in proper outdoor receptacles.
Reports any facility repairs that are required.
Other duties as assigned.
