What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: Experimental Systems Architect (Volunteer) -- Help Design the Nonprofit of the Future position at The Chamber of Us?
TCUS was founded in 2024 by Kevin Schmidt and a dedicated team of changemakers who saw the need for bold, systemic solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. With backgrounds in engineering, medicine, and construction, our team combines technical expertise with a passion for human-centered impact. From supporting classrooms in Ethiopia to exploring sustainable housing solutions, we aim to create real, measurable change where it’s needed most.
Why Volunteer with TCUS?
TCUS is more than just a nonprofit-it’s a movement to rethink how change happens. Volunteers are essential to helping us expand our reach, refine our programs, and make a bigger impact. Whether you have skills in content creation, fundraising, research, or community engagement, there’s a place for you here. Join us in building a world where innovation meets compassion in action.
Get Involved!
We’re looking for dedicated volunteers who are passionate about making a difference. Whether you’re interested in helping with social media, writing, outreach, or graphic design, we’d love to have you on board. The world doesn’t need another nonprofit - it needs a new operating system.
At The Chamber of Us (TCUS), we’re not here to build a normal charity. We’re here to rethink how people, technology, and resources come together to solve the world’s hardest problems - sustainably, systemically, and fast.
We’re looking for a Systems Architect of Everything. Someone weird enough, smart enough, and ambitious enough to help us imagine and prototype the next-generation infrastructure for doing good.
Not just websites.
Not just databases.
Not just projects.
A whole ecosystem - built ethically, transparently, and with the long-term health of people and the planet in mind.
If you think in patterns, if you sketch diagrams in your sleep, if you obsess over how systems, people, data, money, and values can fit together - this is for you.
What You’ll Do
The Chamber of Us (TCUS) is a nonprofit using technology, data, and creative collaboration to address global challenges in sustainability, education, and health. But we don’t believe charity alone can fix the world - we’re here to build new systems.
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by VolunteerMatch, in partnership with LinkedIn for Good.

What You’ll Do
- Help design the architecture behind TCUS’s platforms - Libelle.io, Recipe Empire, our volunteer systems, and more
- Map out how data, people, projects, content, and money should flow together to maximize impact
- Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and leadership to connect the dots between technology, governance, and human networks
- Identify failure points, ethical concerns, and opportunities others don’t see
- Prototype radical, scalable models for how TCUS can operate differently from every nonprofit that came before
- Explore how TCUS could evolve into a fully distributed, self-organizing system
- Bring ideas from systems science, platform cooperatives, decentralized tech, AI governance, or even gaming economies into our design
- A systems thinker, product architect, complex problem-solver, or digital strategist
- Someone who loves blueprints, flowcharts, simulations, or network diagrams
- Curious about how incentives, governance, and collaboration systems work
- Willing to get weird, experimental, and ambitious in service of something meaningful
- Bonus Experience in platform design, tech strategy, blockchain, AI governance, or complex systems modeling
- Bonus Background in organizational design, open source communities, or alternative economic systems
- Systems diagrams mapping how TCUS platforms, people, and processes fit together
- Prototypes of new governance models, incentive systems, or operational workflows
- Internal documentation proposing long-term architectural strategies
- Recommendations for how TCUS can scale without sacrificing ethics or human well-being
- (Optional) Whitepaper or public report on the TCUS model of systemic change
- Help design something no one has ever built - an operating system for doing good
- Apply your systems, strategy, and architecture skills to global-scale problems
- Flexible, remote contribution - work on your own terms
- Collaborate with a small, ambitious, unapologetically idealistic team
- Be part of inventing the future, not reacting to it
