We are seeking a passionate and committed Middle School Dance Teacher to design and deliver an engaging dance curriculum. The ideal candidate will foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally affirming environment while inspiring students to explore various dance forms and express themselves confidently through movement.
Key Responsibilities
Design and teach standards-aligned dance lessons tailored to middle school students.
Introduce diverse dance forms.
Promote creativity, cultural exploration, and expression in the classroom.
Cultivate a positive classroom culture centered on respect, collaboration, and student leadership.
Coordinate and direct performances such as the Winter Showcase and Spring Arts Festival.
Monitor and manage student behavior through proactive, student-centered strategies.
Collaborate with fellow teachers and leadership to align instruction with school goals.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Communicate regularly with families about student performance and events.
Engage in professional development and collaborative planning sessions.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field.
Minimum two years of experience working with youth in an educational or community-based setting.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Dance Education or a related field.
NYS Teaching Certification in Dance (or in progress).
Skills and Competencies
Strong belief in the transformative power of the arts.
Effective classroom management and lesson planning skills.
Experience with differentiated instruction and student engagement techniques.
Familiarity with educational technology and student data systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
