We’re hiring a Director of Engineering to play a key leadership role in the launch of a new luxury hotel. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the property's engineering operations from the ground up. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a track record in hotel openings, and a deep knowledge of building systems, compliance standards, and pre-opening readiness—from system testing and inspections to operational setup and team preparation.
Pre-Opening Responsibilities:
- Partner with the project, design, and construction teams to monitor the progress of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety components.
- Conduct daily inspections to identify deficiencies, ensure systems meet operational standards, and facilitate resolution of any compliance issues prior to handover.
- Lead and coordinate the punch list process for all guest rooms, F&B outlets, spa, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Oversee testing and certification of critical systems such as generators, elevators, emergency lighting, and fire safety systems.
- Develop a preventative maintenance program and establish operational SOPs ahead of opening.
- Assist in recruiting and training the engineering team to ensure a seamless transition into full operations.
Ongoing Responsibilities:
- Manage the engineering department and ensure high-quality execution of daily responsibilities.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies that align with the hotel’s service and operational goals.
- Lead capital projects and ensure all engineering initiatives are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain engineering standards and update preventative maintenance procedures regularly.
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, local fire codes, and environmental regulations.
- Provide ongoing technical training and support to junior engineers and maintenance staff.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Hotel Chief Engineer required.
- Experience in hotel pre-openings, commissioning, and inspections preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience with hotel, institutional, or HVAC systems.
- HVAC certification and refrigeration experience required.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems.
- Experience managing budgets and capital expenditures; stationary engineering license preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
