THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE The Chicago Cubs franchise, a charter member of Major League Baseball's National League since 1876, has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916 and is the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. In 2009, the Ricketts family assumed ownership of the Chicago Cubs and established three main goals for the organization : Win the World Series, Preserve and Improve Wrigley Field, and Be a Good Neighbor.
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE :
The Financial Analyst is responsible for planning and projecting revenues, expenses, and cashflows across multiple entities, as well as conducting financial analysis to inform organizational decisions. This role requires an extremely organized individual to manage and prioritize a wide variety of responsibilities also including financial reporting, ad hoc projects, and treasury management.
THE DAY-TO-DAY :
- Perform annual planning process for revenues, expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Perform monthly projection process in which planned amounts are updated based on business knowledge and cross-functional partnership with department owners and stakeholders. Communicate updates to management, accounting team, and department owners as appropriate.
- Contribute to the completion of monthly and annual financial reporting processes by meeting deadlines within close timelines, communicating results timely, and following up as needed.
- Present materials to Director of Finance and CFO. Demonstrate the ability to think critically and iterate quickly based on review discussions, taking projects from start to finish.
- Prepare financial reporting packages and other presentations for stakeholders including management, ownership, banks, and MLB.
- Analyze financial performance and other metrics or benchmarks to inform decision making. This role requires a significant amount of ad hoc analysis and the ability to work with data in excel and distill information to generate concise, impactful conclusions is important.
