Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Social Studies Academic Teacher who is dedicated to providing an engaging, college-preparatory education that challenges students to achieve at high levels. The ideal candidate will differentiate instruction, design data-driven lesson plans, and integrate technology to enhance student learning.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Engagement

• Develop and implement dynamic, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and historical analysis.
• Foster a classroom culture that encourages discussion, debate, and diverse perspectives on historical and contemporary issues.
• Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs and ensure equitable access to rigorous content.
• Utilize a variety of assessment tools to measure student progress and inform instructional decisions.
• Prepare students for success in ChiArts’ curriculum and standardized assessments.
  
  

Collaboration & Professional Development

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement best practices that align with ChiArts' unique instructional approach.
• Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives.
• Engage with artistic faculty to support students’ overall academic and artistic success.
• Maintain regular communication with students, families, and staff to support student progress and well-being.
  
  

School & Community Engagement

• Implement trauma-informed, restorative justice, and anti-racist practices in the classroom.
• Serve as a student advisor and provide mentorship to help students navigate academic and personal challenges.
• Participate in school events, parent conferences, open houses, and other community-building activities.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and engagement.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Illinois teaching certification with appropriate content endorsement(s).
• Experience with curriculum development and backward design planning preferred.
• Strong understanding of educational technology and its integration into the classroom.
• Passion for arts education and commitment to ChiArts’ mission.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students and staff in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
  
  

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
