About The Position

The Department of Medical Education (DME) at the proposed IllinoisCOM is recruiting a full-time, non-tenure Associate or Full Professor of Foundational Sciences to serve as Discipline Lead for Anatomy and join an innovative and forward-thinking team in developing and delivering an interdisciplinary osteopathic medical curriculum. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator with subject matter expertise in human anatomy and/or complementary disciplines such as embryology or histology. In addition to spearheading innovative, technology-based anatomy instruction, the successful candidate will contribute to curricular development, serve as Course Director/Co-Course Director for foundational or organ system courses, contribute to program and University service, and pursue scholarly activities in support of the IllinoisCOM and Chicago School Mission. The University is building the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, or the IllinoisCOM (candidate status - seeking accreditation), anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Teaching, Curriculum Development, and Student Success

  • Participate in curriculum design, delivery, and evaluation to promote program excellence, student success, and continuous quality improvement
  • Partner with operation personnel to facilitate curriculum delivery
  • Promote innovative, evidence-based instructional methods and technologies
  • Facilitate student coaching and ensure opportunities for student mentoring, scholarly activity and professional growth


Service

  • Represent the College in professional organizations and events
  • Assist where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts
  • Participate in college and University committees


Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Support a departmental vision toward scholarly activity that integrates and aligns with the mission and vision of the College and University
  • Promote research and scholarly collaborations amongst faculty and students
  • Support faculty in securing external funding and resources for research
  • Ensure research activities comply with applicable regulations and ethical standards
  • Participate in scholarly activities congruent with a faculty position


Basic Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (PhD, DO/MD) in area of expertise,
  • Expertise in teaching subject matter in post-secondary, graduate or medical education,
  • Ability to collaboratively and effectively work with faculty, staff and administration in the development of a new College of Osteopathic Medicine,
  • Technical competence to support the development of curriculum, teaching materials, assessment items and to ensure continuous quality improvement,
  • Desire to make lasting and meaningful changes to the healthcare landscape of Chicago and beyond.


Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience in medical education teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.
  • Facilitation skills for case-based and small group learning.
  • Strong record of scholarship and research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Dedication to osteopathic philosophy and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.


POSITION DETAILS

  • Salary range is $145,000 to $190,000, commensurate with academic rank and experience.
  • The position is based on the Chicago, IL campus, with relocation assistance available for eligible candidates.
  • This role will report to the Chair of the Department of Medical Education.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.


Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $145,000 - $190,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
