We are currently looking for a Full Time Archaeological Technician to join our Homeland Affairs Archaeology team located at the Homeland Affairs working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr.
Summary:
Will assist the Archaeologist in actively seeking to identify, document, preserve, protect and interpret Chickasaw culture, history, sacred sites and collections of objects and information for the Chickasaw people. This individual is also responsible to assist in the preservation and cataloging of archaeological collections under the supervision of the Archaeologist.

- Maintains artifacts and collections when housed at the Chickasaw Preserve or other historic sites in the Homeland and provides recommendations for preservation and cataloging of other artifacts as requested
- Assists with city site visits and other site visits as requested for cultural and natural resources, archaeological field work, artifact processing analysis and report writing.
- Conduct and promote quality research in history, ethnohistory, anthropology, archaeology and/or related fields to document information produce interpretation and help the department remain informed of Chickasaw-related cultural and historical fields of information.
- Assists with processing, documenting, and accessioning collections according to the Culture and Humanities accessioning process.
- Assists in conducting archaeological and historical site record searches and performs archival research as needed.
- Assists in documenting donations of Chickasaw archaeological collections.
- Receives training and develops a knowledge of Chickasaw-related history, archaeology, oral history and tradition.
- Assists with the care and protection of any cultural, archaeological and botanical resources on properties managed by the Chickasaw Nation.
- Receives training and develops a knowledge of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) and related Tribal, Federal and state laws, regulations, and executive orders.
- Provides written reports, assessments and serves in a timely manner.
- Provides accurate information on Chickasaw culture and history to visitors at the Chickasaw Preserve, other historic sites in the Homeland, during outreach events, conferences and virtual programs as assigned.
- Participates in visits to federal agencies, repositories and museums as they arise; Seeks and participates in job-related training.
