POSITION TITLE: Forensic Interviewer

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $54,000 annually

REPORTS TO: MDT Facilitator

FLSA STATUS: Full time (40 hours), non-exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for conducting interviews, being familiar with current research and maintaining proficiency in best practices, which includes ongoing training and participation in reviews. The Forensic Interviewer works closely with the Multidisciplinary Team when conducting case assessments and interviews. The Forensic Interviewer also facilitates trainings that are geared toward Law Enforcement and professionals needing more information regarding child sexual and physical abuse. The Forensic Interviewer performs the job duties according to professional ethics, maintaining a high standard of confidentiality.

The Forensic Interviewer works 40 hour/week and reports to the MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conducts sensitive and thorough interviews of children for whom there are allegations of abuse and/or neglect and witness to violence, according to a nationally accepted evidence-based forensic interviewing protocol such as ChildFirst. Responsibility includes interviewing children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities

· Collaborates with non-offending caregivers and the Multidisciplinary Team members to assess concerns and determine appropriate level of intervention

· Meets with Multidisciplinary Team members during initial case assessment; conducts pre and post interview meetings as needed

· Meets with non-offending family members as necessary, making appropriate client referrals

· Dictates and reviews interview summaries in a timely manner; maintains client case files; and records statistical data in the Collaborate database

· Participates in case review, peer review and peer supervision; provides and receives feedback and presents cases and video recorded forensic interviews as requested

· Establishes and maintains credentials as an expert witness in court, providing testimony as needed

· Receives continuing education related to child abuse and training in current trends and techniques used in forensic interviewing

· Provides trainings to law enforcement, schools and youth serving organizations

· Networks with community agencies to maintain positive working relationships

· Communicates effectively with child victims, witnesses, and others regardless of age, sex, social, economic, cultural or ethnic backgrounds, maintaining a strict standard of confidentiality

· Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency in meeting competencies required for position; able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and two or more years’ experience working with abused and neglected children; OR

Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and five or more years’ experience working with abused and neglected children.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

· Excellent listening skills

· Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, child protective and law enforcement investigation procedures, and the legal reporting mandates for professionals

· Knowledge of interviewing suspected child victims and witnesses of abuse

· Familiarity with the legal, social service, medical and mental health systems responsible for protecting children

· Ability to relate sensitively to children of all ages and establish rapport with same

· Ability to respond to families who may be in crisis in a professional and trauma informed manner

· Ability to effectively prioritize and organize assignments in a fast-paced work environment

· Respect for diversity and a commitment to providing culturally competent and inclusive services

· Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple agencies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Prolonged periods of working on a computer

· Ability to communicate, both verbally and in written form

· Ability to visually detect changes in facial expression and demeanor

· Ability to bend, squat, and climb stairs
