Definition

The General Community Navigator serves as a primary point of contact for individuals and families seeking support through The Children's Cabinet. This role provides intake, basic service coordination, and access to internal and external resources while helping to foster foundational skills in wraparound case management. Working closely with Case Managers and other staff, Navigators participate in early-stage support and triage, helping to ensure timely and equitable connection to services. This position is designed to promote cross-training and career progression into formal case management roles.

Duties

  • Develop a strong understanding of the agency's mission, strategic priorities, and overall objectives.
  • Read, understand, and follow all agency and department policies outlined in the Agency Handbook.
  • Conduct client intakes and initial needs assessments to identify appropriate internal and external services.
  • Provide facilitative resource navigation and high-quality referrals based on family and individual needs.
  • Support potential clients with basic goal setting and follow-up to promote stability and access to wraparound services.
  • Partner with Case Managers and other assigned team members to support continuity of care and provide warm handoffs when elevated needs are identified.
  • Assist families in accessing The Children's Cabinet Market and available onsite services.
  • Utilize agency-approved tools and documentation to support closed-loop referral tracking, including those with limited English proficiency.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure services were received and needs were addressed.
  • Facilitate and attend community partner events and presentations to strengthen engagement, expand knowledge of external resources, and promote The Children's Cabinet's programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain strong community partnerships by identifying, vetting, and tracking local resources that align with client needs and agency goals. Actively contributes to building a responsive and informed referral network.
  • Assist with the development of educational materials such as newsletters, tip sheets, calendars, and brochures.
  • Assist with guiding and supporting interns or volunteers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic database use; willingness to learn new platforms.
  • Community resources and services relevant to families.
  • Principles of belonging

Ability to

  • Deliver exceptional customer service in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and manage time efficiently.
  • Build rapport and communicate with diverse populations with empathy and cultural competence.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, community organizations, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adjust communication and support strategies to meet varying client needs and backgrounds.

Special Requirements

  • Associates degree is preferred in a related field (e.g., social work, criminal justice, human services) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • - At least one year of experience in community services, navigation, or support roles.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred and if pass conversational Spanish test rate increase of $1.00 is applied.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all job duties. This may include lifting up to 40 lbs.; bending; standing; sitting; and walking up and down stairs (to conduct home visits); repetitive hand motion (completing forms and inputting data)
  • Must have reliable vehicle for work to attend community events, errands and trainings

License or Certification

  • Able to pass complete background check
  • - Must possess a valid Nevada's Driver's License and proof of insurance for utilizing a personal vehicle for company business
