Culinary Nutritionist
Full Time
Schedule: Avaliability to be scheduled during the hours of 7AM-5:30 PM
Reports to Nutrition Manager
Essential Functions
- Prepare daily snacks and lunches for approximately 250 children ages infant to 5th grade.
- Distribute meals and snacks to approximately 21 classrooms with attention to serving needs based on age and enrollment by estimating food requirements and apportioning servings. Make adjustments to avoid food waste.
- Track and monitor food restrictions and allergies of specific children. Work with parents and coordinators to guarantee clear understanding of child’s needs. Provide substitutions that closely align with the standard menu item. Ensure that these items are given to respective classrooms as needed.
- May be asked to prepare allergy snacks in the morning and the afternoon for children and select staff.
- Fulfill requests from teachers for supplies needed for classroom cooking projects.
- Ensure food is properly stored, labeled, rotated, at proper temperatures and within expiration dates.
- Maintain pristine kitchen environment by implementing sanitary requirements of NYS DOH and CCB standards for workspace, storage, appliances, and equipment.
- Collect dish bins and wash/sanitize lunch dishes and may be asked to wash water bottles in the afternoons.
- Provide a warm, inviting, and engaging foundational dietary experience for early learners.
Responsibilities
- Support CCB’s philosophy on nutrition.
- Build positive relationships with children, teachers, coordinators, colleagues and parents.
- Committed to foresight, collaboration, and planning required for smooth operation of dining services.
- Assist in catering CCB community and staff events a few times each year.
- Putting away food stock as needed.
- Wash, fold, and return laundered items to classrooms.
- May be requested to provide support in classrooms caring for young children which includes close supervision and anticipate needs of children, intentionally engaging children, forming relationships through bonding, acting as an advocate for children. Comfortable feeding and handling all Center foods, formula, and breastmilk to children.
- Present cooking and nutrition workshops for CCB children (optional).
Job Requirements
Physical
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently bend, stoop, climb and kneel.
- Stand for extended periods of time interchangeably throughout the day.
- Ability to be incidentally exposed to common childhood illnesses and other common colds/flus/viruses.
- Use Center provided cleaning solutions and products to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for children and staff.
- Perform cleaning tasks.
- Available for shifts that may include any part of operating hours (Monday-Friday 7 AM – 6 PM) and occasional after-hours events, meetings, and trainings.
- Must be able to use kitchen equipment such as cutlery (knives), dishwashers, dumb waiter, etc.
Credentials
- Able to clearly communicate in English including reading, writing and verbal skills.
- Maintain ServeSafe Allergen and Manager Certificates. (May be provided by employer)
- HS Diploma or GED
- Attend and participate in Center provided trainings (conducted during work hours) to comply with state regulations for child care professionals.
Pre-Employment
- Documentation of negative TB test and work physical (dated within 1 year of hire date).
- 5 hour training required for Child Care Workers.
- Subject to Criminal History Report, Statewide Central Register Database Check, Fingerprinting, Staff Exclusion List check, and reference check.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
