Do you enjoy working in a diverse and multipurpose environment? If you do then the General Behavioral Health (GBH) department is the place for you! The Youth Peer Specialist (YPSS) will act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) who are receiving services in the behavioral health system. Utilizing their own lived experience in a system of care (community mental health, juvenile justice, CPS, etc.), the YPSS supports and assists clients through skill building, information sharing, and direct support.  YPSS’s act as a key member of the treatment team by working with youth one on one or in a group, supporting them in achieving goals through shared activities and interventions. YPSS’s will support youth empowerment by assisting youth in developing skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life.  The Youth Peer Support Specialist also works collaboratively to support systems change by increasing youth and family involvement and decreasing unintentional bias/stigma about child/youth receiving services.

To qualify for this exciting opportunity you will need:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must obtain MDCH Certified Peer Support Specialist within 6 months of hire and maintain throughout employment
  • Must be between the age of 18-24 years old, current or prior involvement with the public mental health, child welfare, special education, and/or juvenile justice systems
  • Possess knowledge of community services and resources including accessibility to public transportation
  • Access to a private vehicle for day to day job performance is preferred
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of youth
  • If position requires driving, you must be able to provide proof of having a current, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, Microsoft Office and general office equipment
