Overview
The Assistant School Resource Officer (ASRO) plays a critical role in maintaining safety and security within the designated area. Reporting to the School Resource Officer, this position is responsible for supporting a safe and secure learning environment at Pathways Academy. The ASRO collaborates with school staff to prevent and respond to safety issues, educates the school community on crime prevention, and builds positive relationships with students, staff, and law enforcement. The role also involves serving as a first responder to emergencies and offering guidance to students in crisis
Responsibilities
- Maintain campus safety by monitoring and addressing illegal activities or potential threats
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws within the school environment
- Collaborate with school officials to develop and implement safety protocols
- Respond quickly to school emergencies and assist with evacuation and lockdown drills
- Provide educational sessions on topics such as bullying, substance abuse, and internet safety
- Act as a liaison between the school and local law enforcement agencies
- Mentor students and assist with crisis intervention when necessary
- Maintain detailed reports on incidents and work closely with school counselors and staff
- Perform related work as required
Skills
- Leadership: Ability to lead safety initiatives and act decisively in emergencies
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with students, staff, and law enforcement
- Conflict Resolution: Strong skills in mediation, de-escalation, and crisis intervention
- Cultural Competency: Ability to work effectively in a diverse school environment, understanding the cultural backgrounds of students and staff
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams and community organizations
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience working in security/safety/logistics environment, with a focus on youth or schools (required)
- Knowledge of juvenile laws, school safety regulations, and local laws pertaining to school environments (required)
- Training in crisis intervention or youth counseling (preferred)
Physical Demands
- Ability to patrol school grounds for extended periods of time.
- Capability to respond quickly to incidents, which may involve running or physical intervention.
- Must be able to participate in and lead physical safety drills, including fire and lockdown drills
