Overview
The role of the FFT FC Family Support Specialist in the Functional Family Therapy (FFT FC) Program is critical to the successful implementation of the FFT FC Model. The Family Support Specialist is responsible for engaging the child, birth family, and foster family, with a primary focus on permanency parents (typically the birth family). Responsibilities include supervised visitation and early engagement around reunification.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an active member of the FFT FC team led by the FFT FC Therapist.
- Provide home-based FFT FC treatment.
- Maintain accountability to adherence to the evidence-based FFT FC model.
- Address clinical needs of clients through model-adherent FFT FC interventions.
- Conduct initial assessments, including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, targeting risks and protective factors, and developing analysis of hierarchy and relational assessment within the family.
- Complete required Care4 documentation.
- Schedule first sessions within two business days of referral with all key participants.
- Provide supervised visitation to birth families.
- Continuously assess engagement levels of all key participants and collaborate with supervisors and stakeholders to overcome barriers to engagement.
- Maintain clear and concise model-adherent documentation of sessions and collateral contacts for monthly supervisory review.
- Document all contact and collateral notes in Care4 within two business days.
- Complete required documentation, including treatment plans and FFT FC Phase Plans.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments and interventions, including safety planning and crisis management, tailored to each family.
- Keep stakeholders informed of elevated risks and attend clients’ family court appearances and Administrative Care Reviews.
- Rotate on-call services.
- Record video sessions as required for FFT consultation and certification.
- Participate in all model and agency training, peer and individual supervision, and staff meetings.
- Independently organize and maintain weekly schedules, keeping supervisors informed.
- Identify and refer children and families to community-based resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology, along with two years of experience in the field.
- Experience providing case management services, coordinating systems of care, working within complex family systems, and delivering in-home services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of child development, trauma reactions and their impact on brain development.
- Familiarity with community services, including DCF-contracted services, care coordination, Medicaid-funded services, faith-based and grassroots organizations, and community-based prosocial activities.
- Awareness of racial disparities within behavioral health services.
Supervisory Responsibility
- None.
Work Environment
- Office-based with work in community environments.
Position Type
- Full-time, non-exempt.
Expected Hours of Work
- Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible schedule and rotating on-call shifts.
Travel
- Limited in-state travel required to meet with clients, foster families, and attend meetings.
- Must have a valid and current driver’s license and auto insurance.
- Driving record must be free of accidents, moving violations, or points.
