About the Laboratory The post-doctoral fellow will join the High Throughput Screening (HTS) Team within the Mitochondrial Medicine Frontier Program. The fellow will be responsible for optimizing existing methods and develop new assays to enable faster genetic and drug library screening for discovery purposes followed by target validation and mechanistic confirmation in many mitochondrial disease models, including C. elegans, zebrafish, and human cell lines. The fellow will also supervise research technicians on the team who will support the fellow in their efforts. The effort of the HTS fellow will support diverse programs across the research lab group, as the HTS team is involved in many of our research projects. Once trained, additional projects may be developed on which the post-doctoral fellow serves as programmatic lead. The candidate should have interest and ideally experience with assay/protocol development, especially in the context of utilizing high throughput technology such as plate readers, high content imaging, flow cytometry, and liquid handling automation. Prior experience with cell culture, zebrafish, and/or C. elegans is strongly preferred but not required; general experience working in other model organisms is required. Any data analysis/programing experience, such as R or Python, is also preferred but not required. The candidate should be comfortable working independently and with various pieces of technology, as well as integrate well in a team environment and have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as collaboration skills. The HTS team will specifically train the fellow on how to use our CX5 plate reader and Agilent Bravo pipetting robot. Training on our models (cell culture, zebrafish, and/or C. elegans) will be provided as needed depending on project needs. Responsibilities Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data. Conduct independent scholarly research, developing new methods and protocols under the guidance of a mentor (principal investigator). Acquire technical, lab management, and grant writing skills. Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, national presentations, and professional workshops. Supervise junior lab members. Assist with other research projects as needed.
