Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at the 270 outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.
Job Summary:
Children’s Museum Houston (CMH) seeks a Parent Stars Associate Manager to work with the Parent Stars Program Manager with the ongoing development and implementation of the Parent Stars program. Parent Stars is a parent engagement program that helps parents of school-age children understand how they can become integrally involved in promoting the science, math, and literacy learning of their children both at home and in the classroom. Throughout the school year, the Parent Stars team facilitates 170 Family Learning Events in elementary and middle schools in the Greater Houston Area.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Program and curriculum development
- Assists with the development and translation of age-appropriate math, science, and literacy-based Family Learning Events, resource guides for parents and other activities as directed by the Parent Stars Program Manager.
- Assists in the revision of instruction materials and other program materials as directed by the Parent Stars Program Manager.
- Stays abreast of current events and pertinent information in early childhood education and attend professional development related to job duties.
- Attends planning and other meetings as requested.
Program Implementation
- Facilitate off-site Family Learning Events and early literacy programs. Effectively engage parents, children, and other attendees at off-site events.
- Share information with program participants about other Museum offerings and direct them to appropriate Museum personnel for additional information.
- Coordinate orientation of interns/volunteers.
- Maintain close communication with CMH’s Senior Manager of School Partnerships to appropriately deliver program offerings.
- Works with Parent Stars Associate, Kit Associates, and Interns to complete necessary steps for setup, implementation, and breakdown of Parent Stars events. This includes pulling kits, kit replenishment, photocopying, etc.
- Collects evaluations and sign-in sheets for all events and returns to Parent Stars Program Manager weekly.
- Fulfills duties of Parent Stars Program Manager and provides requested information to other Museum departments when the Parent Stars Program Manager is absent.
Reporting
- Assist the Parent Stars Program Manager in managing the documentation of all aspects of the Parent Stars program including attendance at events, program development, feedback from participants, and all other relevant information.
- Assist Parent Stars Program Manager in submitting timely participation statistics, photographs and evaluation reports for review and placement in permanent files.
Staffing
- Empower team members to support the Museum’s mission statement.
- Provide a positive working environment that fosters leadership through service.
- Coordinate staff schedule and material delivery routes when the Parent Stars Program Manager is absent.
Other duties
- Oversee program’s supply requests and submits requisition forms to Administrative Assistant according to schedule and immediate needs.
- Completes normal administrative duties associated with an office environment including mailing, copying, typing, and filing.
- Facilitate in all Museum programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be efficient and detail-oriented with a strong customer/constituent focus.
- Proficient in the Microsoft suite of applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Ability to work flexible hours including frequent evenings during the school year and some weekends.
- Ability to travel throughout the city and region to present Parent Stars programming in a variety of settings. Has reliable transportation.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience working with children and families in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of the principles of early childhood education and developmentally appropriate practices.
Travel Requirements:
- Has reliable transportation.
- Able to travel to and from event sites, both inside and outside the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area during peak traffic hours and after dark to facilitate Family Learning Events.
Physical Requirements:
