Job Summary:
Children’s Museum Houston (CMH) seeks a Delivery Driver Associate to work with the Parent Stars and other Community Outreach Programs to support the implementation and distribution of family learning and out-of-school time programs and learning kits. CMH Community Outreach Programs support caregivers of children birth to 12 years in their role as their child’s first teacher, sharing educational resources, materials, and events throughout the Greater Houston Area. The Delivery Driver Associate transports materials to schools hosting Parent Stars Family Learning Event for facilitation and back to CMH for cleaning and preparation. The Delivery Driver Associate also assists in the delivery of early learning and out-of-school time kit materials to partners for distribution and facilitation to their constituents.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver and pick up activity kits and other materials for Parent Stars and other outreach programs from CMH to schools and other facilities within a 50-mile radius of the greater Houston area.
- Coordinate with the Parent Stars Manager on material availability for delivery and any changes to weekly events.
- Coordinate and review logistics with delivery sites for weekly kit delivery and collection routes.
- Assist Parent Stars staff as needed with set-up and/or breakdown of Parent Stars events.
- Support ongoing operations, including light clerical duties, unpacking supplies, inventory, restocking, preparing copies, and organizing materials.
- Assist with sanitizing learning materials and preparing learning kits for family learning events.
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles according to local, state, and federal regulations during scheduled hours to ensure the safety of oneself and others on the road.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work with various programs as needed, particularly during summer when school is out.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all CMH staff.
- Ensure the CMH delivery van is refueled and clean.
- Track mileage driven daily.
- Complete ongoing safety training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license (Commercial driver license not required).
- Clean driving record verified by Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
- Demonstrate safe driving practices.
- Ability to utilize navigation applications (GPS, smartphone, maps).
- Ability to drive in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable with driving a 15-passenger cargo van.
- Must be PC literate with working knowledge of tools such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel and internet software
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to discern the sensitivity of internal/external communications in a large public organization and an awareness of the elements of public relations.
Education:
- Minimum of High School Diploma/GED
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years' experience operating a delivery vehicle.
- Prior experience working with children or working in educational programs is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive for extended periods during peak and off-peak traffic hours
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods
- Capable of pushing and pulling a cart or dolly
- Able to bend at the knees, stoop low, or climb
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
