Job Summary:
Auditions for this job will be held at the Museum on May 1 from 5-8pm, May 3 from 7-10am or May 3 from 3-6pm. All interested applicants must visit https://rb.gy/266quq and register to attend auditions. Only applicants who have registered and auditioned for a role are eligible for employment.
Children’s Museum Houston’s seasonal production involves a cast of 10-12 Performers and a crew of 4-5 Technicians ages 16-21 years old. Performers audition for this original musical in May; those cast in the production are expected to play 2-3 different roles with a variety of cast members throughout the run of the show. The job includes 2-3 weeks paid rehearsal time and a 6-8 week run. Performances run 7 days a week with 2-4 shows scheduled per day. The show itself is 15-20 minutes and created for children and families visiting the Museum. Additionally, Performers are expected to engage with families in character before, during and after their shows. All Performers are responsible for ensuring an entertaining and enjoyable experience for Museum guests and for representing the Museum in a professional and positive manner. Seasonal Production Performers are typically scheduled between 12-28 hours/week.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attending all scheduled shifts (rehearsals and performances) unless a prior conflict has been approved.
- Learning and performing multiples roles for the production.
- Working collaboratively and responsively with different Performers, Technicians and Coordinators.
- Greeting and interacting with guests around the Museum.
- Performing in 2-3 shows plus short scenes around the Museum each scheduled workday.
- Posing for photos with museum visitors.
- Maintaining costumes including cleaning and proper storage.
- Performers may be needed for promo, commercials, and media appearances as scheduled.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Skilled in acting, singing and dancing.
- Comfortable presenting to children and families.
- Excellent flexibility, teamwork and cooperation skills.
- The ability to interact effectively with staff and guests.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Education:
Performers must be between 16-21 years of age; applicants may be currently enrolled in high school or higher education program but no formal education credential required.
Experience:
Educational and/or professional performing experience desired.
Physical Requirements:
Performers will need to run, dance, and walk up and down stairs in this performance. Candidates must be able to complete this requirement with or without reasonable accommodation.
