What are the responsibilities and job description for the MANAGER, STERILE PROCESSING position at The Christ Hospital Health Network?
Achieve goals and standards by using best practices in accordance with local and federal regulatory bodies in order to provide the best patient outcomes and experience. Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department, and utilization of SPD team members to manage workflow and workload within the department to meet the needs of our customers.

Quality Improvement
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental performance improvement activities and assures staff participation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental productivity standards and reasonable expectancies. Holds individuals responsible for meeting metrics.
- Monitors and maintains a safe work environment; evaluates the physical demands of handling supplies, equipment and instruments.
- In coordination with Clinical Engineering establishes and monitors preventative maintenance program for C.S. equipment.
- Assures that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies such as the state Department of Health, Joint Commission, AAMI, FDA and OHSA.
- Monitors employee progress and equipment using the SPM computer and notifies Director of problematic trends.
- Using the SPM computer monitors Q.A. sheets from case cart system and instrument trays and keeps Director informed of problematic areas.
- Keeps data organized and assists in compiling end of period (i.e., month, quarter, year) Q.A. reports.
- Maintains and updates MSDS, job description, and policy/procedure manuals.
- Assist in development of short and long range planning for the Central Service Department.
- Assist in the development of departmental objectives to support The Christ Hospital’s goals and objectives.
Management and Participation
- Responsible for day to day department operations

- Liaison between departments that utilize SPD

Manages Case Cart Delivery System
- Manages day to day operation of direct sterile processing activities including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, storing and distribution of supplies and equipment used in patient care areas.
- Work with O.R. personnel and preference list editor to maintain updated preference lists.
- Resource person for the daily operations of surgery including procedures, supplies and instruments.
- Maintains quality aseptic control procedures.
- Evaluates supplies used in decontamination.
Other
- Maintains continued education in the field of Central Service operations and equipment through education, literature and seminars.
- Attends required in-services and education programs as assigned.
- Demonstrates good time management planning and organizational skills. Delegates appropriately.
- Serves as member of hospital and medical staff committees as appointed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Generates employee schedule and continually monitors to make sure adequate staffing is maintained.
- Completes payroll duties
- Completes annual employee evaluations of direct reports.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Critical thinking skills to assure compliance with several regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, AAMI, CDC, FDA, AND OSHA.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique, microbiology, sterilization, device manufacturing, decontamination, case cart assembly.
• Ability to manage an integrated information system relating to scheduling, supplies, inventory control charging, instrument tracking and payroll (Business Objectives, SPM, Oracle, EPIC).
• Familiar with supplies and equipment provided to Surgery Dept.
EDUCATION: College graduate
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 5 years Sterile Processing, Business Management, O.R., or Materials Management
