What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Enterprise Communications & Thought Leadership position at The Cigna Group?
We are seeking an accomplished external communications professional to lead our Enterprise Thought Leadership team. In this role you will create differentiated thought leadership programming that develops and advances The Cigna Group’s perspective on the most pressing health and societal issues today, including health system transformation, pharmaceutical innovation and affordability, population health and vitality, and others.
You will collaborate cross-functionally, including with CEO and Executive Communications and Public Affairs to engage stakeholders through strategic partnerships, events, and impactful content that advances our mission to improve the health and vitality of the people we serve.
You will manage a high-performing team and collaborate with internal and external experts to substantiate our unique perspectives, shape groundbreaking research, and transform ideas into actions. Recent examples of Cigna's enterprise thought leadership initiatives include Vitality in America, Combatting Loneliness in America, and Cultivating a Health Workforce.
The successful candidate for this role will be a strategically minded, execution-oriented, a collaborator, and a self-starter, who is passionate about improving health care, and comfortable presenting ideas and concepts to senior executives.
This role will report to the Managing Director of Enterprise Communications and Content.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ideate, pitch, develop, and execute thought leadership content and programming, and the associated research projects and partnerships.
Accountable for all thought leadership content, inclusive of white papers, research reports, executive speeches, etc.
Manage thought leadership programming and operations comprised of multiple simultaneous, large-scale projects, including cross-functional teams, budgets, external partners and agency support.
Lead the Enterprise Thought Leadership team comprised of direct reports and matrix colleagues.
Accountable for ongoing measurement to assess impact and continually refine for optimal results.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Offer:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, marketing, or similar field.
15 years of experience and expertise in external communications, thought leadership, public affairs, or integrated marketing.
Health Care Experience: A demonstrable understanding of the U.S. health care system and strong desire to improve access, quality, and affordability of care.
Thought Leadership: A proven track record of creating and implementing impactful thought leadership content and programming.
External Communications: Deep understanding of PR and communications strategies and tactics, and keen interest in identifying emerging trends in content development and channel execution.
Senior Leader Communications: Experience engaging with C-suite leaders on thought leadership program development and execution, including communications and events.
Writing: Strong writing and editing skills; ability to translate complex issues into compelling communications for a variety of audiences.
Collaboration: Ability to manage internal cross-functional teams, external agencies and relationships with third-party research firms and academic institutions/think tanks.
Leadership: Demonstrates leadership skills for a growing team with ability to inspire trust and confidence, including the ability to influence directly and indirectly.
Project Management Skills: Experience working in a highly matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment. Ability to manage team and project budgets, agency and partner relationships, and internal communications and reporting through PowerPoint.
