The individual in this role will create transparency into actual profitability vs. expected profitability across buyer groups & products in U.S. Commercial. They will retrospectively evaluate the decisions that we made and translate those insights into actionable items going forward.
In this role, the individual will work with large amounts of financial data from various systems in order to analyze the quality of decisions made relative to the profitability of the business. They will partner closely with Pricing to understand the target methodology and take that into consideration in their analysis and recommendations. In addition, they will work closely with Finance to understand the financial projections and actual earnings, including identified differences in the Finance data vs. the underwriting data.
The individual in this role will lead fact-based discussions around profitability. They will leverage their understanding of the data across the different systems and teams along with the insights from their analysis to recommend actions that will influence our strategic path forward in U.S. Commercial.
Responsibilities:
Develop a strong understanding of the data sources across Pricing, Underwriting, and Finance including differences across them
Partner with Pricing to understand the evolving data strategy and influence that strategy to effectively support the data needs of profitability analysis going forward
Partner with Pricing to understand the target methodologies and appropriately leverage it in the profitability analyses
Partner with Finance to appropriately use financial projection data, allocation methodology, and case-level actual earnings in analyses
Analyze data to compare actual profitability to expected profitability and draw conclusions about the decisions that we made
Recommend actions based on the insights from the analysis in order to influence execution strategies going forward
Lead fact-based discussions with leaders across Pricing, Underwriting, and Finance about the recommended actions based on the analytical conclusions
Leverage technical and analytical approaches that are efficient and repeatable across buyer groups and products to efficiently update analyses over time and to expand the impact of the analyses across the U.S. Commercial business
Qualifications:
5 years of experience working in Risk Management and Underwriting, Finance, or Actuarial roles
Advanced Excel and SQL experience
Experience working with Tableau and Alteryx preferred
Ability to successfully engage, create and facilitate collaboration across multiple functions while maintaining a high-level of credibility
Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal
Strong technical and financial acumen
Experience working with large data sets
Ability to effectively operate in an innovative, agile and dynamically changing environment
Must work well in a dynamic, multi-faceted and matrixed environment
Strong analytical, risk management, and decision making capabilities, including the ability to effectively translate numerical findings into actions and recommendations
Proven ability to successfully and sustainably influence change
Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of equivalent experience is required
