Job Summary:
Through a strong Christian worldview, the Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Crossroads and the general supervision of residents. The RA follows and enforces procedures and rules, while conducting him/herself in a courteous and professional manner at all times. Communicates meaningfully and discerningly with our resident population. The RA is responsible for the safety of the staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers of The City Mission (TCM) as well as TCM’s physical property. The RA is a first responder to incidents involving resident, staff, and volunteers.

Essential Job Functions:
Ensures Safety and Security
- Maintains the safety & security of Crossroads– all people and property – by following procedures and enforcing rules and boundaries.
- Monitors resident activities throughout the building including resident living quarters.
- Responds to all incidents and emergency situations; de-escalating residents, calling for emergency aid or assistance from other staff.
- Performs physical rounds of buildings and property, enforcing rules, accessing help, or communicating concerns to the appropriate party.
- Performs searches of bags for inappropriate items, enforcing TCM policies with residents.
- Watches security cameras for irregularities, concerns, or problems, addressing them immediately.
Facilitates Meaningful Communication
- Communicates courteously and professionally with all callers, visitors, and residents.
- Answers telephones professionally and courteously, directing callers or taking messages as appropriate.
- Refers residents and callers to appropriate staff.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and needs with staff and management.
Other Responsibilities
- Documents all shift activities, including incident reports and resident behaviors.
- Completes registration paperwork and reviews rules with new residents.
- Maintains safe and clean RA booth by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
