The City of Alliance is currently accepting applications for a part-time dispatcher in the Alliance Police Department. The applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must have excellent computer/typing skills. The ability to communicate well and operate under pressure is imperative. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work without direct supervision and to work well with others. Applicant must pass a stringent background check and a drug test. Dispatch experience preferred but not required.

DISPATCH/COMMUNICATIONS
JOB DISCRIPTION
1. DUTIES:
A. Operate the Central Radio System
1. Transmit radio calls to various law enforcement agencies and to the Alliance Fire Department.
2. Answer incoming radio traffic directed to the Alliance Police Department or to AFD Central Dispatch on all available frequencies.
3. Monitor the status of the communications equipment, perform routine maintenance/cleaning as needed and report any system failure and/or equipment problems to the shift commander.
B. Answer all incoming phone lines
1. Provide information as appropriate.
2. Make referrals as necessary.
3. Relay information and communications to response agencies, officers, and involved parties.
4. Take accurate messages.
5. Use proper decorum.
C. Monitor and operate computer networks (CRIS, LEADS, NCIC, APD) terminals, 911 printers and fax machine.
1. Obtain necessary query information.
2. Make queries for vehicle registration, driver’s license, Career Criminal History, stolen vehicles, stolen articles, suspicious person, etc.
3. Enter data into these systems using appropriate formats and coding abbreviations.
D. Monitor various Burglar and Fire Alarms
1. Make emergency contacts as necessary.
2. Report malfunctions to appropriate agencies.
E. Maintain radio/dispatch logs, dispatch cards, shift reports, and reports of radio and telephone activity.
F. Maintain and update various files including, warrants, towed vehicles, temporary protection orders, emergency contact cards, missing persons stolen vehicle and articles, etc.
G. Maintain and update CRIS, LEAD, NCIC, FCC, and all other pertinent reference manuals.
H. Review and follow all procedures, directives, guidelines, rules and regulations pertaining to the position of dispatcher in the Alliance Police Department.
I. Perform other various duties, as required.
