About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Laborer in the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for assisting the operator of the vac-con truck in the day to day cleaning of the Stormwater catch basins, pipes and culverts within the street rights of way.
What you’ll be doing:
- Performing manual labor in support of public works projects
- Following established safety procedures and utilizing safety equipment
- Operating a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects
- Assisting in streets and sidewalk projects, as well as stormwater drainage system construction and maintenance
- Assisting during emergency weather events and other activities, as assigned
- Processing documentation associated with department/division operations
- Performing other related duties as required

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of work experience in maintenance, construction, or building trades
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
- Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

- Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, with a 4-day work week (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
