Overview
The Police/Fire Dispatcher plays a crucial role in the law enforcement communication system, serving as the vital link between the public and police/fire officers. This position requires a calm demeanor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The dispatcher will be responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, assessing situations, and dispatching appropriate resources while maintaining accurate records of all communications.
Schedule
- This position is Part Time at 28 hours a week
- Typical bi- weekly schedule is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 2:00 pm-10:00 pm one week and Thursday, Friday, Saturday 2:00 pm- 10:00 pm the next week.
- Schedule may be adjusted as needed to fit the need of the department but will never exceed 28 hours a week.
Duties
- Utilize phone systems to communicate effectively with law enforcement personnel.
- Monitors alarm system signals that indicate location of fire, robbery, burglary or other emergencies.
- Coordinates all police, fire, ambulance, and other personnel, equipment and other units to relay instructions or information to radio units concerned.
- Types commands on computer keyboard and/or typewriter to update files and maintain log.
- Serves as receptionist, personally handling routine inquiries and referring problems to the appropriate authorities.
- Manage conflict situations calmly and professionally, employing conflict management techniques as necessary.
- Uphold high standards of phone etiquette while interacting with the public and law enforcement personnel.
- Regular and predictable attendance and the ability to get along with others.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Ohio Driver's License
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
- Proficient in using phone systems and other communication technologies.
- Strong analytical skills to assess situations quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure.
- Must be able to pass a background check as part of the hiring process.
