ABOUT CEDAR PARK
The Position
The City of Cedar Park is hiring for a Utility Operator I or II to join our team. Under the direction of the Foreman, performs duties essential to operate and maintain the city's wastewater collection system, including making water and sewer taps, installing and replacing water meters and valves, repairing water and sewer leaks, installing clean-outs, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Makes water and sewer taps for new services.
- Repairs water and sewer leaks, including digging holes and trenches, using backhoes, hydro-excavators, and otherequipment, and placing necessary trench shoring.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines, including unclogging lines using hydrojets, routers, CCTV trucks, and hand tools, light, and heavy equipment, exercising and/or replacing valves, enteringconfined spaces, and testing for low water pressure.
- Performs utility line locates.
- Performs leak site dress-ups by pouring sandy loam over affected area.
- Runs new main feeders and service lines.
- Reads and maintains various flow meters, water interconnects, meters/gauges at lift stations, water booster stations,and other utility appurtenances.
- Performs chlorine tests on new lines.
- Operates valve-turning equipment.
- Operate CCTV trucks.
- Must be able to works On-Call rotation schedule.
- Maintains fire hydrants and air release valves.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least one (1) year of experience in Water or Wastewater utility operations or construction for Utility Operator I; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of experience in Water or Wastewater utility operations or construction for Utility Operator II; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within 180 days (pending availability of class offering), with an acceptable driving record.
Utility Operator I : Must obtain a Class II Wastewater Collection License or Class C Water Distribution License within two years of hire.
Utility Operator II: : Must possess a Class II Wastewater Collection license or Class C Water Distribution license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Other TCEQ licenses will be considered for equivalency.
Hiring Ranges:
Utility Operator I: $19.82 - $24.88 per hour
Utility Operator II: $21.85 - $27.43 per hour
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: basic first aid procedures; and safe operating procedures of equipment used. basic computer knowledge and skills.
Skill/Ability to:
- Skilled in locating water and sewer lines using maps; repairing and maintaining water and sewer lines and associated valves and pumps;
- Skilled to operate a backhoe, dump truck, pump truck, hydro jet, and various handheld tools, applying safety standards to prevent hazards;
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; make simple mathematical computations;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers;
- Ability to deal effectively with the public in stressful situations;
- Able to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications,
- Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and acceptable driving record.
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
