Job Description:
This role assists with developing and promoting the City’s strategy for performance using data analytics.
Examples of Duties:
- Assists with leading and implementing the City's organizational improvement efforts, including the development and reporting of the City's strategic plans, representing the City's overall information and data analytic interests.
- Work with City Departments, community partners, and residents to drive impact on some of the City’s biggest challenges.
- Coordinates and manages Performance Metrics Status meetings with departments, executive leadership and the Mayor.
- Creates and administers performance management tools that track, monitor, visualize and publicize progress to ensure accountability and drive continuous improvement across city departments, programs and initiatives.
- Teaches and empowers staff to effectively use data to inform decision-making and improve services for residents, businesses and visitors.
- Continues to build on the city’s legacy of data excellence and share best practices with peer cities.
- Develops and implements effective measurements of progress toward outcomes and reporting tools to present complex information in simple terms.
- Researches and implements best practices, emerging technologies, and strategies for improving City government performance, particularly with the Open Data and Performance Management initiatives, developing methods, procedures, and quality objectives including metrics for assessing productivity.
- Coordinates the activities between multiple projects related to performance and open data to help the city meet business objectives and achieve project goals.
- Organizes and participates in the cross-departmental Data Governance Team, provides data in accordance with the City’s Open Data Policy and drafts an annual report to the Mayor and City Council.
- Develops partnerships to promote performance management and open data capacity with other public agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and city residents/resident associations.
- Teaches and empowers residents to effectively use data and create regular opportunities to broaden citywide data literacy.
- Promotes data equity and access for residents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent; and one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience creating custom SQL queries, analyzing, visualizing and communicating data.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word or similar software and relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarization with Miro, Visio, ArcGIS Online, OpenGov, PowerBI, Tableau or other data visualization tools desirable.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
