Job Description:
Salary is dependent on qualifications.
In this role, you will support the Chief City Prosecutor in preparing and prosecuting cases in municipal court on behalf of the City of Charleston.
Examples of Duties:
- Gathers and analyzes evidence in cases.
- Interviews witnesses to ascertain facts of cases.
- Works with police officers in developing cases.
- Reviews pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to cases.
- Prepares and responds to motions.
- Appears at bond hearings.
- Prosecutes nonjury and jury cases.
- Interacts with judges, clerks, courtroom personnel, defense lawyers, and others on a daily basis.
- Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate Law degree (J.D.) and 4 years of prosecution experience.
- Must have experience as lead prosecutor in jury trials.
- South Carolina Bar Certified and courtroom certified.
- Strong writing skills.
- Valid driver’s license.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office similar software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in state and municipal court.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
