Job Description:
This role will operate a mobile license plate recognition system to enforce ordinances to regulate the orderly parking of motor vehicles including immobilization and towing operations. You will also assist at special events to clear vehicles from the street zone.
Examples of Duties:
- Maintains a regular patrol of parking districts as assigned, issuing tickets for violations of the City's parking codes as needed.
- Coordinates towing of illegally parked vehicles and assists with immobilization of vehicles due to unpaid parking tickets.
- Assists at special events, such as public gatherings, parades, and similar events, by bagging meters, placing barriers and flyers on vehicles to clear the street zone and create a safe environment. City supported events not limited to: SEWE, MOJA, Cooper River Bridge Run, Spoleto Festival.
- Tags abandoned vehicles for removal from public roadways.
- Places and retrieves parking related portable traffic signs, barricades, cones, and other parking safety items when assigned to locations.
- Operates a Mobile License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera equipment.
- Respond to specific parking concerns and requests outside of typical geographical areas of enforcement.
- Operates handheld ticket-writing device to record violations and assess penalties.
- Chalks tires of vehicles parked in unmetered spaces, records time, and returns at specified intervals to ticket vehicles remaining in spaces illegally.
- Disseminates vehicle information to Parking Services Dispatch Center.
- Reports missing traffic signs, broken parking meters and markings for proper division.
- Works in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rainy, etc.).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1.5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires SLED Security Awareness Training Certification within 6 months of employment.
- This job requires the ability to use a two-way radio, Ipad, and carry a hand-held ticketing system.
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
