Job Description:
This role is responsible for using knowledge of applicable programming languages to code websites and web applications in developing, supporting, and maintaining City websites and web apps.
Examples of Duties:
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of the City's multiple internal and external web sites and web apps.
- Communicates with other City personnel to determine their needs and design preferences, creating code for the front and back-end of a website and running tests to ensure proper performance and function.
- Codes and scripts web pages and web apps.
- Performs system testing and quality control checks of new updates and configurations.
- Coordinates with designated department web administrators to ensure current and accurate content.
- Coordinates with the City’s Public Information/Communications Office on content and messaging for both regular operations and emergency management scenarios.
- Trains new department web administrators in how to access, create and edit related web content.
- Writes and reviews standard configuration and operating procedures.
- Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions about web site and web app operations and content.
- Works with hosting vendors regarding web site hosting, accessibility and operations issues and services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in computer science, business administration/management or related field and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with web development, coding, scripting, and web markup.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable computer programming languages to include HTML/CSS, PHP, Python, and JavaScript/Java.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading projects and working with teams.
- Experience working with large enterprise-level software systems.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
