What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumbing Inspector II position at The City of Coral Gables?
This position performs a variety of routine and complex technical work in inspection and enforcement to determine compliance with all applicable ordinances as well as accepted standards relating to plumbing installations throughout the City. The employee exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment under the general direction of a supervisor.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Serves as Chief Plumbing Inspector in their absence.
Reviews construction documents for compliance with Florida Building Code, City regulations and other applicable codes and standards. Discusses any necessary modification or changes with contractor or owner.
Checks each project for defects, omissions and other departures from correct procedure. Gives suggestions and recommendations to contractor or owner.
Ensures that all plumbing work conforms to National, State, and applicable codes and standards.
Investigates complaints of violations of the Plumbing Code or illegal plumbing practices. Notifies responsible person of defects and issues verbal or written instructions for corrections. Conducts re- inspections. Reports violations and occasionally represents the City at court hearings.
Consults with contractors or other interested parties and explains or interprets plumbing standards in code.
Performs inspections and prepares inspection reports. Handles correspondence and performs general office work in connection with inspections and plan review.
Inspects major and minor repairs, plumbing installed above and below the ground including, but not limited to, septic tanks and drainage fields, dry wells, soakage pits, grease interceptors, water piping and waste lines.
Performs other related tasks as required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be certified as a Plumbing Inspector and as a Plumbing Plans Examiner by the Board of Rules and Appeals per Miami-Dade Code Chapter 8 and have one of the following:
At least five (5) years of field experience as a Certified Master Plumber issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board;
OR
At least five (5) years of field experience as a state Certified Plumbing Contractor issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board.
OR
A Florida Licensed Professional Engineer having obtained a license pursuant to examination in the mechanical discipline and having had five years of field experience under that license.
Valid Florida Driver's License.
