Position Description
Job Summary:
The Manager is responsible for the on-site supervision of all aspects of the Aquatic Center, including safety, cleanliness, staff training, rule enforcement and financial accountability. The Manager will have consistent face-to-face interactions with a highly diverse group of guests and must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
The Manager will supervise, coach, and evaluate staff including assistant managers, lifeguard instructors, lifeguards, and guest service staff. The Manager is actively involved in planning and leading staff in-services. Creating a culture for all staff that focuses on safety, guest satisfaction, teamwork and fun is essential.
Scope of Impact:
The expectation of the Edina Aquatic Center Manager – Seasonal is to serve as a collaborative & motivational leader that who engages a positive fashion with other facility staff, vendors, and the public. This position requires problem solvers who use critical thinking & independent judgement to make decisions on the daily basis that support the successful operation & reputation of the facility.
Seasonal Commitment Program: Receive a $300 incentive when you work the entire seasonal of June 6, 2024 - August 18, 2024 at the Edina Aquatic Center. Eligible employees (current City of Edina seasonal/part-time employees) will receive the lump sum payment if they work the entire season, with satisfactory performance with no unexcused absences. Managers must work through August 18 and a minimum of 275 hours to be eligible for the commitment bonus.
Essential Functions
FACILITY/GENERAL
Responsible for the on-site supervision of all aspects of the Aquatic Center
- Ensure the safety of all staff and facility users by enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
- Provide leadership and model professional, proactive and approachable customer service, responding in a professional manner to the needs & concerns of both guests & staff while handling sensitive information with care & confidentiality
- Supervise the achievement of daily duties by conducting frequent facility & equipment inspections
Charged with responsible use of reporting tools & technology used to create, review, & take action on closing & opening reports/checklists focused on addressing any facility, equipment, supply/inventory, communication, or staffing needs. All facility managers & the CPO (certified pool operator) also receive the report, so it is a shared responsibility that these needs are addressed in a timely and collaborative manner.
- Communicate daily with full-time lead staff (General Manager, Assistant Manager, Facility Coordinator, Certified Pool Operator(s), Birthday Party Coordinator) & full-time seasonal lead staff (Seasonal Managers, Early Morning Supervisors, Lifeguard Instructors, Leads)
- Maintain inventory by ordering supplies for admissions/concessions (Guest Services), first aid (Water/Deck), and cleaning or safety (Facility) – always promoting waste reduction & safe use/storage off all products of use as an active operation, other duties as assigned
DECK MANAGEMENT
Provide direction, leadership, & ensure prompt reaction to/in emergency scenarios, demonstrating confidence & instruction across facility staff in these emergency response scenarios
- Review & clearly document/communicate the context, action, & result of facility-wide response & reporting to emergency or safety scenarios/incidents
- Ensure facility staff schedule supports clean safe environment and safe water chemistry levels for the health and safety of patrons
GUEST SERVICES
- Demonstrate accountability for cash handling, financial reporting and daily deposits & customer relations
- Enforce policies & procedures around responsible food safety practices
- Assist Assistant General Manager in the execution of the start-of-season training opportunities and with the planning & execution of Guest Service staff in-services
- Assist Facility Coordinator in the execution of groups, events, programming, & staff engagement opportunities
STAFF
Responsible for collaborating with other lead staff (Lifeguards Instructors, Seasonal Managers, full-time staff) to ensure the appropriate scheduling of employees (Guest Services, Lifeguards) using scheduling software & tools
- Responsible for making day-of staffing decisions & changes in response to factors that affect daily operations (low attendance, weather, events, rentals groups, etc)
- Ensure the weekly accounting of staff hours worked so the operation is using minimal to no overtime
- Actively managing staffing substitutions/adjustments & time off requests
- Provide and document discipline and commendation to staff members as needed to ensure the highest moral and ethical behavior amongst the staff.
- Provide seasonal employees with feedback on their performance in both passive & formal observation opportunities such as daily interactions (passive) & evaluations (formal)
Use recreation software to review, prepare, or adjust facility and program reservations, monitor & correct point-of-sale transactions, and generate related reports or temporary facility signage
Other Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate on a daily basis with General Manager, Assistant Manager and CPO.
- Coordinate pool groups and facilitate special events.
- Make decisions to send staff home due to low attendance, weather, etc..
- Verify hours worked for payroll and monitor hours to minimize overtime.
- Review all accident reports.
- Prepare post season report.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 20 years of age.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training or American Red Cross Training Certification
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience supervising seasonal staff
- Experience working with recreation management and/or employee scheduling software
- Experience in retail (point of sale and cash handling/deposit procedures) & running reports
- Experience in food service
- Experience in aquatic programming (swim/dive team, swim safety, etc.)

Working Conditions:
The Edina Aquatic Center is an outdoor facility, requiring work in all types of weather conditions; strong and unpleasant odors and fumes such as chlorine; noise from children; allergens such as pollen and bee stings; pool chemical fluctuations which might cause irritation to eyes and skin; and possibility of administering first aid which may involve exposure to infections leading to chronic disease or death, even bloodborne pathogens. Applicants must be able to perform all essential position functions under the working conditions previously described.
