JOB SUMMARY
Serves as Office Services staff for the Building & Code Department by performing clerical and bookkeeping duties as may be required by the
Building Commissioner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as staff in the Permit Center and Planning & Zoning Department: including issuing permits at the counter and online, answering phone calls and emails in a professional and timely manner, taking in
payments, and providing excellent customer service.
- Log in plans for upcoming building projects for Plan Review.
- Scanning in Zoning Clearances & Permits into Laserfiche.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Document Imaging Prepping and Scanning as needed.
- Cash collection.
- Prepare Code Enforcement violation letters and tickets.
- Assist Department staff as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent with adept knowledge of
general office and clerical procedures.
- One (1) year office/clerical and receptionist experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of general office procedures.
- Ability to operate telephone system and transfer calls with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with the general public, Department Heads and fellow employees.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions of a routine nature.
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to type at a minimum speed of 65 wpm.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard 40 hours per week office environment.
DRUG TEST REQUIRED
The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore, a post offer, pre-
employment drug screen is required. Random drug testing may be conducted after employment.
