The Street Maintenance Tech I position maintains and repairs the city streets. This position is responsible for street patching, sealing and stripping, and snow removal and maintains roadway easements by mowing grass, weed control, and tree trimming.
Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
1. Operates and maintains street sweeper
2. Operates loader, dump truck, salt spreader, jack hammer, and saws
3. Sets up barricades for street work
4. Trims trees, sweeps streets, and performs general construction work
5. Cleans ditches
6. Frames, mixes, and pours concrete
7. Patches holes in streets and bridges
8. Removes snow and ice from roadways
9. Repairs and constructs curbs, gutter pans, and catch basins
10. Paints street markings, railroad crossings, and school crossings
11. Lays bricks in street repair
12. Performs manual labor tasks, such as digging, raking, etc.
13. Makes repairs to equipment and barricades
14. Uses crack seal
15. Performs standby duties up to five weeks, in rotation, which requires working after hours
- Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
- Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
- Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic

Position Requirements:
1. High school diploma or other equivalent
2. Valid Kansas Driver's
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
1. Knowledge of safety requirements and procedures in work assignments
2. Ability to learn street maintenance and repair, concrete framing, and road construction
3. Ability to learn how to operate a loader, dump truck, salt spreader, and related department equipment
4. Ability to receive and follow oral and written instructions
5. Ability to read and interpret maps and diagrams
6. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
7. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
8. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
