The City of Emporia has 4 classes of Water Plant Operators, each class requiring more advanced licensing. The Water Plant Operator Trainee position is an entry-level position. As a Water Plant Operator Trainee, you will receive on the job training and an opportunity to test for your Operator I license. There is also the opportunity to learn more about Water Plant Operations and test for additional licensing to advance your career.
Under the supervision of the Water Plant Manager, the Water Plant Operator Trainee performs skilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance and operation of the plant facilities. This employee handles the day-to-day operation of the water systems for the city of Emporia, including checking equipment for proper operation and making repairs when needed. The Water Plant Operator Trainee records and maintains daily log sheets and records of plant operations.
STANDARDS FOR INITIAL CONSIDERATION
Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Kansas State Water Certification within one year or already possess certification.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to communicate effectively and accurately with fellow employees.
Flexibility to work rotating shifts.
Must possess a valid KS Driver’s License.
Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Ability to pass a physical exam, drug/alcohol screen and background check following a conditional employment offer.
City policy requires employees to reside in Lyon or surrounding counties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $20.04 per hour
