The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the civil service examination for Groundskeeper.
About the Job:
The work of this classification involves maintenance of park, golf, ball field and associated City-owned boulevards, right of way, lawns, grounds and other recreational areas. Additionally, the work of this class involves outdoor operation of a variety of general and specialized grounds maintenance equipment and shop work associated with repair, maintenance and refurbishing of specialized equipment. Employees may also plan, design and implement irrigation and drainage installation and/or small scale construction projects, e.g., foot bridges, paths or shelters and, train and direct the work of Park/Golf Laborers, General Laborers, seasonal day laborers, community service workers and volunteers by providing specific instructions for tasks to be completed. The work also involves responsibility for observation, recording and repairing of damage to City property and grounds; additionally, performs related tasks as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent and sufficient education to enable reading and understanding of plans, instructions, shop service manuals, forms and reports AND
A minimum of two years of verifiable experience in grounds, parks and/or golf course maintenance which includes the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of equipment associated with grounds, parks and golf course maintenance.
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Washington Commercial Driver License (C.D.L.), with the necessary endorsements as prescribed by law, within three (3) months of hire.
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain Flagging card and First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, any applicable licenses or certificates needed for mixing, handling and/or applying pesticides, which may include insecticides, herbicides, fungicides or other chemical preparations associated with grounds keeping tasks within a six (6) months of hire.
Successful completion of a Washington State Patrol background inquiry pursuant to RCW 43.43.832.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Perform a variety of manual labor tasks requiring some strenuous physical effort such as lifting objects weighing in excess of fifty (50) pounds

EXAMINATION STEPS
The Supplemental Questionnaire is part of the application (weighed 30%). Answers must be detailed and will be blind rated.
A limited number of applicants with the highest passing grades on the supplemental questionnaire (weighted 30%) will be invited to a practical evaluation (weighted 70%) tentatively scheduled for Mid/Late February.
All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
IMPORTANT NOTES
A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
Extensive background checks will be conducted.
Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a city-paid pre-employment physical.
New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
