TRAFFIC ENGINEERING SEASONAL DAY LABORER
$26.00 – 28.00/hour

The City of Everett is accepting applications for two seasonal Traffic Engineering Seasonal Day Laborer positions in Public Works. This employment is temporary (up to six months in duration). It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employees request at the completion of employment. A work permit fee of $12.00 per pay period must also be paid to AFSCME Local No. 113. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits.
NATURE OF WORK
Traffic Engineering Day Laborers will perform basic duties including data collection and input, engineering studies, and support of traffic design and operations engineering for the City of Everett. An employee will perform a combination of indoor and outdoor tasks and will be assigned a Traffic Engineer and Traffic Technician who will provide training and professional direction.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is up to 40 hours per week.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Update GIS traffic data layers and add GIS asset information to Cityworks asset management software.
- Traffic operations field investigation and measurements for traffic engineering studies.
- Nighttime street sign reflectivity evaluation and development of sign purchase.
- Crash data and traffic volume compilation for adjusting traffic signal timing.
- Citywide turning movement counts and tube counts and compiling statistical data including traffic volume, vehicle classification, and vehicle speed.
- Development and review of site-specific traffic control plans for maintenance operations.
- Data entry and computations in spreadsheets and custom databases.
- Records/plans digitizing and filing of updated traffic counts data, traffic signal timing and traffic plans.
- Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to apply guidelines to recurring operational and safety requirements.
- Ability to proficiently operate computers and other office equipment and adapt to new equipment and software programs.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment, sturdy footwear, operating a City vehicle, working in and around vehicular traffic, and other safety measures directed by the City’s safety official.
- Ability and willingness to be punctual and dependable, and to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
- Ability to follow City of Everett safety plans, including the City’s COVID safe work practices.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- Possession of, or be able to obtain prior to appointment, a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Flagging Card (City provided training class available).
- Prior to employment, must submit a motor vehicle driving record abstract.
