The City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department is in search of energetic and fun-loving people for part-time, temporary positions to operate the 2025 Summer Camps.
The City of Falls Church is an independent city six miles from the nation's capital. It is small in area (2.2 square miles) and population (about 16,000 people). The City is known for its urban village community, quality customer service, nationally ranked school system, environmental activism, and endless community activities.
A director is needed to operate our extended care program for children ages 5 through 12. The Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, supervising and evaluating all aspects of the Extended Care Program. This program is held at the Falls Church Community Center and runs for ten weeks from June 9 through August 15, 2025.
- Responsibilities
The Director will assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising staff. The Director oversees the drop-off and pick-up of campers to and from the program, coordinates transportation of campers from the program to their respective day camp and interacts with parents and guardians as needed. This position is responsible for documenting all incidents and accidents, ensuring medical logs are completed, and administering medication to campers with appropriate paperwork.
Applicants must be at least be 21 years old and have a degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure services, education or a related field. Applicants must have at least two years of work experience in a camp setting, and a minimum of five years of experience working with children. Applicants must have or have the ability to achieve before June 9, 2025 CPR and First Aid certification as well as a Medication Administration Training certificate. Extensive experience in working with youth can be substituted for education.
Pre-camp planning hours are flexible. During the 10 weeks of camps, work hours are Monday through Friday from 6 : 30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 2 : 30 p.m. to 6 p.m., not to include hours of planning and program preparation. The Director will work between 35 and 40 hours per week.
The rate is $25.00 per hour with no benefits.
