Emergency Communications Supervisor

Starting Pay Range: $69,079 - $86,349 annual compensation

Workdays & Hours: This position is in a 24-hour, 7-day a week facility, which requires working outside regular business hours, which includes overtime, shift work, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

An Emergency Communications Supervisor position is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Communications Division. The incumbent will supervise and coordinate public safety emergency communication and dispatch program activities and operations within the Police Department on an assigned shift. Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (GED)
• Three (3) years of public safety emergency response and dispatch experience, including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
• Pass the CritiCall Skills Assessment Test.
• Pass a drug screening.
• Pass an examination by a psychologist, licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or by a psychiatrist licensed by the Texas Medical Board.
• Pass a polygraph with no deception indicated.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possess a current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Advanced (or higher) Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate
• Certified Training Officer (CTO) at the time of job offer.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a TCOLE Instructor Certification within one (1) year from the time of job offer.
• Currently employed with a police agency.

The Emergency Communications Supervisor job responsibilities include:

• Train, motivate, and evaluate public safety emergency response personnel; provide or coordinate employee training; work with subordinate employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures when necessary
• Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for public safety communication and dispatch services and activities on an assigned shift; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with employees to identify and resolve problems.
• Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
• Monitor the operation of various emergency response, recording, and dispatching equipment; determine and schedule needed maintenance and repair.
• Gather, compile, record, and report all data relating to public safety emergency response and dispatching activities.

Working Conditions

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Physical Demand

Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
