What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Lesson Instructor position at The City of Frederick?
- Report directly to immediate supervisor, the Swim Instruction Coordinator.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and compassionate relationship with all participants and parents.
- Complete all paperwork required by the Red Cross within the allotted time following each session.
- Ability to provide all levels of swimming instruction.
- Responsible for all equipment and supplies belonging to the City and keep storage area, etc. neat and secure.
- Maintain open communications with all staff, participants and parents of the program.
- Work cooperatively with all team members and parents involved in program.
- Assist the coordinator in completing and distributing evaluation forms for program participants.
- Ensure a safe environment for all participants and staff.
- Work all assigned hours as designated by supervisor.
- Perform any other job duties as directed by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Must have strong customer service skills
- Must be able to work well with others
- 16 years of age or older (work permit required for those under the age of 18)
- Previous experience as Water Safety Instructor and/or Water Safety Aide
- Knowledge of Red Cross Swimming Program

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
- Current certification in accredited swim instruction program
- CPR and First Aid
- Ability to read and interpret documents using the English Language
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to interact with children of varying ages.
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Basic Mathematical skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to water. The employee is constantly required to remain in the water; to reach items at various depths within the pool, and to constantly position self to maintain access to swimming participants. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pound items. Must be able to observe participants’ swimming skills and abilities and adjust instruction techniques. Employee must be able to work demanding hours in season.
