POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees the inspection activities and personnel to review and evaluate contractors' compliance on various construction and design project plans and specifications.

Reviews preliminary plans and evaluates future plans for construction.

Reviews contractor submittals.

Resolves construction and design issues.

Attends pre-bid, pre-construction, and various project meetings.

Prepares and reviews various reports and records.

Provides management of multiple construction and design contracts of various sizes.

Serves as liaison between City personnel and contractors, consultants or testing laboratories.

Reviews, approves and tracks consultant or testing laboratory estimates.

May develop standard protocol for environmental and geotechnical investigations

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Physical Sciences or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
