What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Control Officer position at The City of Lyons?
The City of Lyons wishes to hire qualified candidates for open Animal Control Officer position immediately. We are accepting applications from applicants who possess a High School diploma or state-awarded GED. Have a minimum of one year of practical experience involving animal control, animal handling, and public interaction; or any equivalent combination of education, specialized training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The position requires self-motivation, time management, verbal and written reporting skills. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Good work and driving records are required.
Duties:
· Responds to complaints from citizens, law enforcement agencies, and staff concerning stray, sick, or dangerous animals;
· conducts investigations to determine possible violations.
· Interprets animal welfare ordinances to the public; participates in educational programs and community services;
· Works with local law enforcement officers to enforces compliance by issuing warnings or court citations; Acts as a witness for the department and provides expert testimony in local or state court for code violations;
· Performs administrative duties; completes reports of bites, warnings, and citations, and quarantines;
· Captures transports, and impounds sick injured, trapped, or vicious domestic animals;
· performs animal care duties including feeding animals and maintaining kennels, observes and diagnoses injured or ill animals, euthanize animals as necessary.
· Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment; disinfects vehicle cages;
· Cleans and maintains the Animal Resource Center facility;
· Evaluates animals for adoption possibilities, euthanasia decisions, and holding times;
· checks all animals for microchipping; contact owners. Assists customers regarding missing or lost animals and adoption possibilities.
· Response to radio calls from field officers. Exercises animals; work with aggressive animals. Performs other related duties as assigned.
