What are the responsibilities and job description for the Department of Public Services - Maintenance/Tree Trimmer Forestry Division position at The City of Monroe, MI?
The City of Monroe is accepting applications for a full time Tree Trimmer/ Bucket Truck Operator, within the Forestry Division of the Department of Public Services, to maintain trees in the city right of way and parks. Under the supervision of the Forestry Supervisor, an employee in this position performs a variety of urban forestry, beautification, and landscaping tasks, emphasizing tree trimming, tree removal, and plant care. Performs general labor tasks and operation of heavy equipment typically assigned to forestry work. During winter operations, utilizes available skills for general departmental benefit, including operation of heavy or medium equipment and other general labor tasks.
Requirements/Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of progressive experience in forestry, landscaping, equipment operation and/or maintenance position
- A valid Michigan Vehicle Operator’s driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Type “A” required, or ability to obtain a class “A” within 90 days.
- Orientation to equipment above 36,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight.
- Minimum score of 70% on the City of Monroe aptitude examination.
- Ability to obtain additional certification for pesticide application, as necessary.
- Ability to learn computer programs or technical devices the department uses at a fundamental, operational level.
- Familiarity with construction materials, equipment, and supplies used in public works.
- Orientation to proper safety procedures generally associated with forestry activities.
- Ability to work in high places using proper safety equipment and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within deadlines and changes in work priorities.
- Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, City officials, project contractors, and the public.
Range of Pay will be $24.91 to $30.02 per hour (depending on qualifications) with excellent benefits starting upon employment.
