Under general supervision, the Recreation Specialist assists in staffing and coordinating safe, fun and personalized birthday parties to ensure customer satisfaction at DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist in ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to the community.
- Works closely with the Aquatic Supervisors to set a high level of standards and expectations with the Party Attendant team and holds self and staff accountable to those expectations. Keeps staff informed of any updates as needed.
- Confirms booked birthday parties, follows up with party bookings as needed and assists in the advertising of parties at Das Rec. Strives to upsell party themes if necessary.
- Establish rapport with children and parents; show genuine interest.
- Be outwardly and obviously friendly and interact positively and enthusiastically with children and parents as needed.
- Assists in the promotion of birthday parties at Das Rec with members and guests and at events as needed.
- Serves as a liaison between the Party attendant staff and the Aquatic Supervisor and the Assistant Aquatic Supervisor.
- Plans strategically and stays up to date with local party trends and themes and works to ensure Das Rec is providing up to date and relevant events.
- Contributes to the hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluation and disciplinary action documentation of assigned staff.
- Assists in managing a variety of administrative activities including computer records, employee scheduling, accident/injury reports and work activity reports.
- Maintain inventory of party supplies, keep supplies stocked and order when necessary.
- Project a positive attitude toward the organization and co-workers and ensure that actions, appearance, attitude, and attendance are at a level that serves as a positive example for DAS REC.
- Has knowledge of how to set up, tear down and clean up party room areas for events including proper arrangement and presentation of tables, chairs, decorations, AV equipment, tableware or other props or products as needed.
- Understands safety and emergency procedures and exercises sound judgment to report unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
- Prepares and assists in maintaining Das Rec, New Braunfels Recreation Center to ensure a safe condition and to meet community needs; must be in compliance with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
- Prepares and assists in maintaining City of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department’s Mission and Vision Statements.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
Education and Experience:
Must be eighteen (18) years of age;
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess or be able to obtain within two (2) weeks of employment: Community First Aid and Safety/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements

- Ability to speak to people, known or unknown in a friendly, welcoming and helpful manner.

- Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
- Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed primarily indoors in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Must be willing to assist patrons.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
