JOB SUMMARY
This job is located in the Mobile Integrated Healthcare work section of the Fire Department within the City of Oklahoma City. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) provides support services alongside other members of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare team. The PRSS utilizes a variety of skill sets (e.g., training, their own lived experiences, and interpersonal skills) to assist clients experiencing substance misuse and/or behavioral health crises. This role performs crisis stabilization and assists with identifying the needs of the client’s well-being.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operating a city vehicle to respond to non-emergency behavior health and substance abuse calls.
- Providing peer recovery support services to address Substance Misuse Disorder and co-occurring needs.
- Utilizing a philosophy of integrated care.
- Addressing co-occurring needs to focus on harm reduction and well-being goals.
- Utilizing knowledge, skills, and abilities to teach and mentor.
- Modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
- Establishing a rapport with clients to build trust and promote productive interactions with personnel.
- Collecting and documenting data to track progress and feedback from clients and their support systems.
- Providing non-emergency transportation to homeless shelters, urgent recovery clinics, inpatient care, or other community resources.
- Serving as an advocate for clients while assisting with access to community services.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification (C-PRSS).
- Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).
