Job Summary:
The Hydrant Maintenance Worker is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and ensuring the operational readiness of fire hydrants throughout the City of Oxford. This position involves routine maintenance such as flowing hydrants, lubricating threads, painting, and conducting flow tests. The Hydrant Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in supporting the Oxford Fire Department’s emergency response readiness by ensuring hydrants are in proper working order.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections of fire hydrants within the city.
- Perform hydrant maintenance, including:
- Flushing and flow testing hydrants.
- Lubricating operating nuts and nozzle threads.
- Replacing worn or damaged gaskets.
- Painting hydrants for visibility and identification.
- Document maintenance activities, test results, and any deficiencies in a hydrant tracking system.
- Report damaged, malfunctioning, or non-operational hydrants for repair or replacement.
- Assist in coordinating hydrant repairs with the Public Works Department or Water Utility.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA standards and city regulations regarding fire hydrant maintenance.
- Maintain hydrant maintenance equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief or designated supervisor.
